I really don’t like Adium. But since people (and I don’t know why) still use other IM services like Windows Live, I occasionally use it. I’ll also login to Facebook chat so it’s not a total waste of time. Anyway, Adium looks ugly. iChat doesn’t. So I put together a list of Adium Xtras and enhancements I’ve found. This list kind of makes Adium look like another iChat account. It’s not identical at all, but hey it’s not iChat.
Here’s what you should do:
Who wants another dock icon anyway? The menu bar is all you need, plus if you use iChat, you don’t want 2 IM applications in your dock. As for the message style I use Renkoo. It doesn’t look like iChat’s balloons, but the ones I’ve found that are trying to imitate iChat, don’t look good.
Other things: I also hide the user icons in the contact list and icons in the chat window toolbar. If you want icons in the toolbar, Capsule Toolbar is okay. You can figure out how to style the contact list yourself. It’s not hard just tweak the default Aqualicious. If you find better ways to make Adium more like iChat, let me know.
